Faux Tile

|
| Problem: Our customer ordered a custom precut countertop and backsplash. The countertop had been inaccurately drilled for faucet location, which left no space for the backsplash between the faucet and wall. There were also 3/16" gaps all the way around between the countertop and walls, one of which was badly out of square causing a large tapered gap along the edge of the top. |
Solution: Topcoat faux artist Nate laid out a faux tile backsplash grid and through careful application of plaster, tints and glazes created an effect that looks and feels like tile and grout. He also used plaster and epoxy to fill the tapered gap between the countertop and wall, essentially filling the gap to look and feel just like the countertop, complete with formed bullnose on the front edge and matching spattered finish. All surfaces were sealed with varnish for moisture resistance. This is a great example of a creative faux solution to a difficult on-site problem. |
